Johan Gardfors is Bernadotte Fellow of the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters 2018 and post-doctoral scholar at Paris 8 (EA 1569 TransCrit) ; Ph.D. in Comparative Literature at Gothenburg University 2017 with the dissertation “Åke Hodell : Art and Writing in the Neo-Avant-Garde” ; teaching and doctoral studies at Gothenburg University 2011–2017 ; Degree of Master of Arts with majors in philosophy (Stockholm) and comparative literature (Gothenburg) 2009 ; founding editor of small press Bladstaden 2007 ; freelance work as a photographer 2001–2007 ; studies in photography and media 2001–2004 ; studies in Italian and art history 1999–2000. He published two works of fiction – an experimental novel and an illustrated childrens’ book – as well as essays and academic articles on modernism, avant-garde, and photography, for instance on the publishing practices of the avant-garde, on the disappearance of the photographic darkroom, and on the archival turn. His multilingual article on Lily Greenham was written with Johanna Drucker, Vincent Broqua, et. al.
