My research and teaching interests are at the intersection of art, work and occupations, as well as urban issues. I am currently writing a book on the social organization of a theater community over a 30-year period based on Howard S. Becker’s ethnographical material and mine in the San Francisco Bay Area. My current writings also include comparing theater as a social activity, representation, and performance in France and in the USA. I am a member of the Editorial Board of the French and bilingual journal Biens Symboliques / Symbolic Goods as well as the US Journal Symbolic Interaction.
