Flavia Ciontu is a PhD student at the University of Paris 8 since September 2021. She holds a Master’s degree in American Studies from the University of Bucharest and is currently working on her thesis entitled “Representing Otherness : Images of Eastern Europeans and Russians in American Cinema and Television 1990-2020”, under the supervision of Anne Crémieux, professor of American Studies.

Drawing on a transdisciplinary theoretical framework (cultural studies, film studies, intersectionality, critical whiteness studies, as well as concepts of representation and discourse), her work explores the intersection of different systems of oppression and othering on screen, with the aim of shedding light on the mechanisms of representation of cultural minorities.
