About

Susan Ball holds a Bachelor’s in Environmental Sciences from the University of East Anglia, and a Doctorate in Land Use Planning from Oxford Brookes University ; the latter was financed through an ESRC scholarship, and deals with the challenges of the Metropolitan Green Belt. She subsequently worked as a research consultant in spatial planning for DTZ, London, where she advised public and private organizations, and charities, on the social consequences of economic change, urban marketing, and the cost-value advantages of built heritage (for English Heritage). After moving to France, she worked at the University of Caen as ATER (Attaché temporaire d’enseignement et de recherche) from 1997 to 1999. In 1999, she became associate professor at the University of Paris 8 where she co-directed the Languages and Societies Master’s program, and worked as International Relations manager for her department. Susan Ball has been a member of the steering committee—for France—of international research projects (EastBordNet COST Action IS0803 et HERA). She has published in international journals on the subjects of migration and divided societies, visual sources, spatial planning, and urban marketing.
